Mitsubishi Debuts Mi-Tech Turbine-Powered, Open-Roof Concept In Tokyo

There's also the Super Height K-Wagon Concept that imagines a space-efficient, tiny van.

Mitsubishi arrives at this year's Tokyo Motor Show with the exciting looking Mi-Tech crossover concept and wonderfully named Super Height K-Wagon Concept van. For now, there are only teaser images for the pair, but the full debut is just a few weeks away at the Japanese automotive event.

The Mitsubishi Mi-Tech Concept can look like a sporty roadster at first glance, but it's actually a tiny, open-roof crossover. The vehicle uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain with four electric motors, and a gas-fueled turbine produces electricity for the system. Mitsubishi's creative description for the machine is "an electric SUV that delivers unparalleled driving pleasure and confidence over all terrain in light and wind." The futuristic cabin projects information directly onto the windshield, and an autonomous driving system would be able to take over control when the person behind the wheel doesn't feel like doing the job.

If you're able to attend the Tokyo Motor Show, there's an opportunity to experience the Mi-Tech Concept in a virtual reality demonstration, including what it's like to be behind the wheel.

The Super Height K-Wagon Concept is Mitsubishi's idea for a future tiny van that fits into Japan's kei-vehicle segment. A machine has to be small to fit in this class, so the boxy shape maximizes the interior space within the limited footprint. This vehicle also has the company's Mi-Pilot driver assistance tech that can handle single-lane highway driving, forward collision mitigation, and mis-acceleration mitigation.

After an original debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer Concept has its Japanese premiere in Tokyo. It's a three-row plug-in hybrid crossover that seems to point to the direction for future products from the Japanese brand.

Mitsubishi is beginning sales of the Dendo Drive House in Japan, and the company shows off the vehicle charging system at the Tokyo show. The offering bundles together an electric vehicle, charger, solar panels, and storage battery. The company also handles all of the installation and after-maintenance, too.
