Few cars can top the sonorous engine note of the Jaguar F-Type
R. For the new model year, the sports car is about to get even more
aggressive with an extra dose of power. Along with a revised
supercharged V-8 engine, the 2021 JaguarF-Type receives a light nip-tuck and new interior technologies.
Jaguar
has injected 25 more hp and 14 more lb-ft of torque into the 5.0-liter
supercharged V-8 of the F-Type R, bringing total output to 575 hp and
516 lb-ft. According to Jaguar's estimates, this engine should propel
the F-Type R to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The model also features an
upgraded chassis with new springs, dampers, anti-roll bars, and rear
knuckles. With these changes, Jaguar promises improved comfort at low
speed as well as better control at higher speeds. Wider Pirelli P Zero
tires top off the performance updates, and they're paired with new gloss
black 20-inch wheels.
The base F-Type
will continue to feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine
making 296 hp and 295 lb-ft. The supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 also carries
over with 380 hp and 339 lb-ft for R-Dynamic models. It will be paired
exclusively with AWD. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard
across the lineup, as the manual option was axed for 2020.
Jaguar makes no mention of the 340-hp V-6 engine that was available for the 2020 model year.
The SVR trim is also absent from the lineup, but buyers might not miss
it too much considering the updated F-Type R makes the same 575 hp.
No matter which trim you get, the F-Type looks meaner than before.
Slimmer headlights and a larger grille with a new mesh pattern give the
front end a sharper look. You'll also notice a new clamshell hood, with
air vents positioned farther forward. Along with a new front bumper, the
model features subtle changes farther back, including fender vents with
the Jaguar Leaper logo and updated rear light clusters.
Inside
the cabin, drivers can't miss the new 12.3-inch digital instrument
cluster behind the steering wheel. This screen is standard and offers a
choice of three display themes, including a full map. The model features
Jaguar's latest infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and
Android Auto, as well as over-the-air software update capability.
Slimline seats come in two versions: Sport or Performance. First Edition
models, available for the first model year, boast 12-way Windsor
leather seats, special badging, Suedecloth accents, and other premium
features.
