McLaren's Newest Special Edition 720S Has a Lovely Set of Five-Spoke Wheels

Tomorrow, June 18, marks the 25th anniversary of McLaren's win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. To celebrate the occasion, it's releasing a limited edition 720S coupe with a host of cosmetic upgrades, the most interesting of which are a set of perfect race-inspired five-spoke wheels.

Creatively named the 720S Le Mans special edition, just 50 examples will be built worldwide, available in either McLaren Orange or Sarthe Grey. In addition to the LM wheels—which were inspired by the #59 F1 GTR that won the race—the car gets a handful of Ueno Grey-painted panels, a set of specific logos, a gloss black roof scoop, carbon fiber louvers in the front fenders, and gold-painted brake calipers. Inside, it gets carbon fiber racing seats, a 12 o'clock marking on the steering wheel, and a handful of anniversary logos.

Despite the functional roof scoop channeling extra air to the drivetrain, output from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 remains unchanged, at 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, getting to the ground via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 0-60 sprint happens in just 2.7 seconds, and top speed is 212 mph.

McLaren says the 720S Le Mans special edition is already on sale in Europe with a starting MSRP of £254,500 (around $320,000). U.S. pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
