The Nissan Frontier Desert Runner is one of the off-road-oriented trims offered on the brand's midsize pickup truck alongside the PRO-4X. The Desert Runner you can buy at your local Nissan dealership comes with an off-road suspension and all-terrain tires, but for this one Nissan decided to turn the wick up and really make the name mean something. As a result, this one-off access cab example comes with Titan power.
Under the hood is the same 5.6-liter V-8 from the Titan full-size pickup but it has been modified with a Garrett GTX3584RS turbocharger, a custom intercooler, Jim Wolf Technology camshafts, valves, and pistons, Anne an MA Motorsports turbo header and exhaust system. The result is a healthy 600 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque, 200 hp and 287 lb-ft more than the stock 5.6-liter unit. The engine is hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission with a Jim Wolf Technology clutch and flywheel.
On the suspension front, the Nissan Frontier Desert Runner gets a BTF long travel front suspension kit, king Racing Triple Bypass front and rear shocks, coilovers, Giant Motorsports Link Killer rear leaf springs, and Fifteen52 TurboMac HD wheels shod with BFGoodrich Baja all-terrain tires.
Body changes include Fiberworks Pre Runner fenders and fabricated front and rear bumpers. There's also a custom tire carrier and Rigid Industries off-road lights. Nissan also stripped the pickup's interior and installed a coated floor, a MA Motorsports custom harness bar, Sparco harnesses, Sparco racing seats, and a Sparco steering wheel with a quick release steering wheel adapter.
The Nissan Frontier Desert Runner was originally shown at the 2019 SEMA Show but it's now on display at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show alongside Nissan's production-spec Titan and Frontier pickups.
